FREE LIFEJACKETS FOR KIDS AT THE SHOW
Water safety awareness in and around boats is more important that ever! Whether it's May or September it's always important to be safe on the water!

Research indicates that many kids aged 8 to 12 admit they never wear a life jacket (Personal Floatation Device or PFD) when riding on a personal watercraft (50 percent), participating in water sports (37 percent), or on a boat (16 percent)*.

To help encourage kids to wear PFDs and teach water safety skills that can save lives on the water, the Northwest Yacht Brokers Association is partnering with Children's Hospital & Regional Medical Center and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary to teach basic water safety skills to kids and their parents at the 2007 Lake Union Boats Afloat Show.

To learn more about Children's Water Safety Skills, visit Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center's Stay on Top of It program.

PFDs are Cool!
The first 400 kids attending 2007 Lake Union Boats Afloat Show will have the opportunity to be properly fitted with their own PFD through the support of Discovery Yachts, Olympic Boat Center and Stearns. Visit the Children's Water Safety booth located on the NW side of Chandler's Crab House for your FREE PFD. Remember—PFDs are cool!

Children's Water Safety Skills
Kids and their parents who visit the Children's Water Safety booth located on the NW side of Chandler's Crab House at the Show can learn basic water safety skills from the U.S. Coast Gurad Auxiliary. Learn small boat entry and exit skills through a short safety exercise, when and how to wear your PFD and what do in an emergency.

Each participant will take home Boating Safety Side Kicks a fun water safety informational coloring book by the National Safe Boating Council and Children's Hospital's Stay on top of It booklet along with ample crayons courtesy of Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center.

Fun Saillboat Rides
Kids of all ages and parents who participate in the Children's Water Safety Skills program can put their new PFD and water safety skills to work for a free Lake Union sailboat ride courtesy of Sail Sand Point and Seattle Sailing Club.
