OPENING DAY AT SAILFEST NW
Sailors know some of the best boating weather is in the fall. That is why The Lake Union Boats Afloat Show and Sail Sand Point—Seattle’s newest non-profit community sailing center-are staging the Sixth Annual Sail Sand Point Media Pro-Am on Lake Union.

DATE: Wednesday, September 13
TIME: 1–3 PM

Join reigning Pro-Am champ Jeff Renner of KING TV along with Seattle Times sports reporters Greg Bishop and John Boyle, Olympic gold and silver medalist Tracie Ruiz-Conforto, Olympic silver medalist John Stillings, Olympic canoeist Jordan Malloch, UW basketball legend Chester Dorsey, UW rowing coach and former U.S. Olympic rowing coach Bob Ernst and U.S. Olympic sculling coach Emil Kossev as they tack and gybe with members of Seattle’s "elite" sailing community at the 2006 Pro-Am Sailing Race.

The local celebrities will race "America's Cup" style on 14-foot Hunter 140's on the waters of Lake Union at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13 to bring awareness to the importance of water safety and support youth sailing programs in Seattle. The Pro-Am Sailing race will conclude at approximately 3 p.m. with a water show by the City of Seattle fire boat Alki.
