CLASSIC HYDROS AND LIGHTS
You’ve heard them thundering on Lake Washington now here’s your chance to see them up-close. Check-out classic unlimited and unlimited light hydroplanes at Seattle’s Lake Union Boats Afloat Show, meet the drivers and bid on a chance-of-a-lifetime ride in one of the fabled unlimited classics.
 Courtesy of the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum, the fabled 1959-vintage Miss Thriftway and 1968-vintage Miss Budweiser will be on display throughout the show. Considered by many as “The Boat” among the historical unlimiteds, Miss Thriftway, ran on the ’61 and ’62 unlimited circuit as “Century 21” promoting the Seattle World’s Fair. In 1961, she won both the Gold Cup and National Championship and on the ‘62 circuit, won five out of six races along with the Gold Cup and national title. The ’68 Bud won the 1969, ‘71 and ‘72 National Championship and 1969 and ‘70 Gold Cup.
On Saturday and Sunday, don’t miss a chance to check-out unlimited lights UL18 Countrywide presents StraitThunder.com and the UL62 Benz Electric presents Miss IRS Environmental. These fast, nimble hydros will be on display courtesy of the Unlimited Light Hydroplane Racing Association. Don’t miss a chance to meet drivers Joe Turner and Rod Bourke, who will be on-hand both days in full racing gear to share stories of roostertails and close calls, sign autographs and pose for pictures.
